Idiyappam / Sevai / String hopper

Ingredients
  • Roasted rice flour - 1.5 cup
  • Boiling water approximately- 1¼ - 1½ cups
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Salt

Preparation

  • Allow water to boil and add a tsp of oil and salt. Now off the flame and add the boiled water little by little to the rice flour and make a soft dough. Knead it well and keep aside.
  • Now take the idiyappam maker and grease it with oil and fill the dough. Grease the idly plate with oil before pressing.
  • Press it in on idly plate (long strings).  
  • Now heat the idly pot and place the plate inside the steam and allow to cook for 10 mins in high flame and 5 min in low flame. Switch off the stove.
  • Remove and serve plain idiyappam hot with coconut milk, veg kurma and coconut chutney.
  • You can also make different flavours tomato, coconut and lemon idiyappam.

Sweet Idiyappam

Ingredients
  • Plain idiyappam /  string hoppers – 1 cup
  • Ghee 1 tsp
  • Banana (optional) - 1 (smashed/ cut into small pieces)
  • Coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Sugar/organic sugar as per taste
Preparation
  • In a bowl, add plain idiyappam then add all the ingredients and mix well
  • Make balls and serve.
  • Kids love these kind of food, healthy and yummy.
